Occupational asthma from Swimming Pools
Hello, I have been told by my doctor that I have Ocupational Asthma!
Back in April of 07 I started to complain to the Town that I worked in that the air in the indoor swimming pool where I worked seemed bad! A few months of e-mails and phone calls did nothing. Then one of my co-workers went out sick with shortness of breath and cheast pain. Next a few months later the same thing happened to me I ended up in the emergency room not being able to breath very well. I thought right away that it was linked to the air quality in the building. I did some research on bad air at indoor pools and came up with a lot of info from the net.My first thought was bad/dirty/moldie ventilation. Then the State came in and said If anything is causing respatory problems it the high chloramine content in the air. So again I did some recerch on chloramines, and found I numerous symtoms of chloramine exposure.
I was in and out of work from Aug-07 to Jan 08 Then I received a letter from the town that I was being terminated as of Jan 9th 2008. So now I am out of work, But feeling much better. Not 100% but getting there I hope. Is there any information or sugestions you may have that might help me to prove my case, because the Town is denying that the documented high levels of chloramines cause my health problems. There is a page about occupational asthma from swimming pools on this website, link below. You may need to show that something in the swimming pool is the cause of your asthma. If you were still working there then serial peak flow records can help with this (instructions in the workers section, link below). the fact that you have improved since leaving helps. Your doctor should be able to provide more advice, since he / she has made the diagnosis.
